Is English a good major?

With a minor or double-major in psychology? What can I do with that?

Yes.

It seems like a lot of people who have strong psychology backgrounds and who are also very good writers end up writing successful books or become radio personalities or have successful and interesting careers in Public Relations, marketing, or similar fields. Of course teaching is always an option too.

There are so many professions that have people who are terrible at communicating effectively but those who can write and speak well usually rise to the top, and an English degree can help with that.

A shrink who is terrible at writing or communicating will not be as successful as a brilliant writer. And other professions that are more of a corporate type job such as Public Relations or Marketing can also hire people with a psychology background even if you never took a PR or Marketing class, especially if you are a good writer.

I think it's a good major, especially teamed up with a science-oriented major like psychology, as you suggest.
